Arise FM - Tanzania PDF Print E-mail

Friends of the Gospel has successfully completed the funds needed to build Arise FM in Morogoro, Tanzania. Arise FM will be the first Gospel-spreading radio station programming 24 hrs a day in a city of 300,000 people where Islam continues to try to invade. 3 Islamic radio stations control the airwaves in a city where radio is the primary means of communication. There isn't one single evangelical radio station...until now!

We will celebrate the building of Arise FM in November when Pastor Nathanael Kapela, the founder of Arise FM, will visit the United States from Tanzania. Pray that God will advance the Gospel through this great ministry.

Persecuted Church Conference PDF Print E-mail

What is the Persecuted Church Conference?

Introduction:
The aim of this important conference is to raise awareness concerning the plight of our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world, particularly those who live in Islamic controlled or Muslim aggressive nations. How do we discover them? How do we pray for them? How do we encourage and equip them?

Isn't persecution a thing of the past? Nero, Queen Bloody Mary, the Spanish Inquisition...those days are long over, right? Actually, there was more persecution of Christians in the 1900's than any other century in history. How could this be? Islam and Communism are still the two main causes of persecution among Christians. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea, Sudan and nearly 50 others consistently persecute Christians.

In some places, persecution is much more severe. I have personally been to the Island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean. I have sat with persecuted believers who know this pressure. Churches are burned to the ground. The government seizes Church land and hands it over to Muslims for Mosque to be built. Christians lose their jobs. Christian children are forced to memorize the Quran or be kicked out of school. These are issues we know nothing of as Americans. Just because it doesn't touch our families doesn't mean it shouldn't touch our hearts!

I have smuggled Bibles into Vietnam and saw just how scarce Bibles are. I have sat with pastors in gurilla zones in Colombia and felt the enormous tension and pressure they are under. I have walked with Christians through Hezbollah strong holds in Lebanon and seen the devastating effects of war and how the Church is caught in the crossfires of conflict. We have been to prisons and have seen first hand the plight of so many dear precious believers who have lost everything to follow Christ.

Imagine going to church next Sunday...but doing it in secret worried about who may have followed you or has been watching you. Imagine rather than going to a Christian bookstore and buying a Bible based upon your favorite translation, color of leather, large print or thumb indexed...there were no Christian bookstores...let alone any Bibles. What if the only Bible you had was a worn page that you kept hidden because it was illegal to own Scripture?

In many nations, persecution may not come in the form of arrest or physical harm. A great deal of persecution comes from the society in which they live. Can you put yourself in some of these situations? What if you had a job you enjoyed and had been working for quite a number of years and suddenly your new boss was a Muslim. Obviously you are a Christian because of your family Christian name and also because your ID must state whether you are a Christian or Muslim. He fires you. Imagine moving into a new neighborhood and being harrassed because you are a Christ-follower. What if you went to a government building to have paper work done but could not get things done because of your ID saying "Christian."

These are real life pressures that our brothers and sisters face in nations where they are the minority.

Did you know that the nation of Yemen in the Middle East does not have one single known church in existence? Oh be assured the Church is there for God always has a remnant and a people...but the church is there without a building to worship in, so they meet secretly with handfuls of believers in homes. Did you know that you cannot enter the city of Mecca (the holiest city in Islam) because you are from the West? In order for an American to visit Mecca he must have an Islamic Passport issued separate from his US passport. He must change his name legally to an Islamic name and he must have written permission from a Mosque in the US.

Shocked? Well listen to this...there is a thriving underground Church in Mecca because God is converting people! It is astounding. But do we pray for them? If we don't know the Church exists...then are we praying? A better question is this...if we don't know that there aren't any churches that exists...then we most likely are not praying for persecuted Christians.

On behalf of the Suffering Church,
Pastor Chad Roberts
